So I went to this little concert on Saturday called Video Games Live. Have you heard of it? I hadn’t until I was given tickets to it for Christmas. Not knowing what to expect, I didn’t even look it up before going, I was heading in with kind of a bad attitude. Do I really want to sit and listen to some almost famous bands attempt to play video game music while I watch some geek play games on a big screen?
That is so far from what it was. I think I maybe their new spokes person/Fanboy. Not sure which one or maybe both. Anyway, what Video Games Live is, is a concert with a kickin’ orchestra and choir. I know, I know… how can an orchestra and choir be at all relevant to todays gamers? But I promise you, I didn’t lose my voice screaming with the rest of the sold out theater because they were lame.
Here are some pics to give you an idea of what went down.( click on the photos to enlarge)
And there was more than just an orchestra. They had this piano player by the name of Martin Leung. Absolutely, hands down the most entertaining pianist I have ever watched. And so I give you a picture… idiot. Let me give you some video too. It’s a must see to believe.
Did I get a little carried away? Whatever, now you don’t have to go searching through all of YouTube to see the guy. I get mesmerized by his flying hands. And seeing him live was simply jaw dropping.
There was also a whole pre-show event that allowed concert goers the chance to get on stage to try to win a big prize. We got to see some dude play an Aerosmith song on Guitar Hero with the orchestra and the host playing his electric guitar as accompaniment. So basically in order to win the prize, this guy had to get 125,000 points playing this Aerosmith song, and he had to do it on expert! This dude totally knew his way around in Guitar Hero , cause he got over 200,000 points and completed 96% of the song. It was just amazing to watch.
I guess my point with all this is to say it was well worth the money, and theres a good chance I will go again next year. Go head over to the Video Games Live website, check it out. Hit up their concert schedule and see if they are coming to a town near you.
